The Business/Career/Development Program (B/C/DP) is the 501(c)(3) organization of EWI.
This program supports our philanthropic programs, ASIST and
Literacy.
The San Fernando Valley Chapter participates in the following programs:
- ASIST - Adult Students in Scholastic Transition
ASIST is a flexible scholarship program that addresses the needs of adults
who are struggling to improve their status in life through education.
Applicants may be single parents, those just entering the work force, or
displaced workers. Local EWI chapters set and fund scholarship amounts and
then work with educational providers and social services agencies to identify
candidates. The need-based award may be used for tuition, certification
programs, books, equipment or seminars.
- International Philanthropy Project (Literacy)
EWI is committed to the international promotion of literacy. Throughout
the organization, philanthropic projects are broad in scope and include book
drives for libraries and agencies, one-on-one tutoring of adults and children,
and other diverse projects that enable people to realize their potential through
education.
In addition, funds are raised within the chapter membership each year to support various
other philanthropic projects. Past projects have included support for:
- Women's Care Cottage - Provides
housing, clinical and client-driven supportive services to homeless and
extremely low-income women and children, in an effort to move them off the
streets permanently
- Safe Harbor - Provides a safe place for
abused women and children
- Haven Hills - Safe house for battered
women & children
- Family & Child Counseling Center -
Non-profit hope and healing for emotionally troubled children and their
families
